Hi all,

I am planning on upgrading my PC soon, specs so far:
GPU: 4070 or 4070ti
CPU: 13700k
CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D15
Storage: WD BLACK SN770 TB or Samsung 970 evo plus 2tb NVME
Case: Corsair 4000D ATX
PSU: Corsair RM850x

I don't really know what memory kit to buy. I only use my PC for gaming (1080p to 1440P) and the occasional browsing. I am looking to get a total of 32GB of RAM, although 16GB might be enough I don't plan on upgrading my pc again for another 3-5 years. I am open to both DDR4 and DDR5 suggestions for around 170 euros max. As of right now I am looking at buying a GIGABYTE Z690 DDR4 MOBO but I am open to changing that if there are solid DDR5 RAM options available for my suggested pricepoint.

Thanks in advance.

If you're looking at a Z690 DDR4 motherboard, then look at a DDR4-3600MHz, tight timings dual channel ram kit. If you're looking at a DDR5 motherboard, then best stick to a dual channel 4800MHz/5200Mhz kit. Just an FYI, I'd get a Z790 chipset board and do away with the issue of updating the BIOS in order to drop in the 13th Gen processor on your motherboard.

Where are you located and what is your preferred site for purchase?

Thansk for the reply. I did actually change to a Z790 chipset, although I am sticking with DDR4 since a good DDR4 kit seems better than DDR5 right now. I am undecided between the 2 following kits:

Corsair one is a lot cheaper but have never used their kits before so don't know if they are any good. If you have other better suggestions for DDR4 memory at around a max 120 euro pricepoint for 2*16GB, let me know. I am located in The Netherlands.

Get the G.Skill kit, they have tighter latencies as opposed to the laxed ones on the Corsair kit...when you compare them.
Alright, thanks. I am not mistaken that DDR4 is better than DDR5 right now right? Like you have to get a REALLY expensive DDR5 kit to see a increase in performance compared to DDR4

You might want to find another GPU. 12GB VRAM is enough for now, but I'm afraid it won't be 2 years from now, especially for 1440p.

If you can't wait, I recommend RX 6800 XT. Great GPU for the money.

If you can wait for 3-6 months, wait for 7700 XT. It MIGHT come with 16GB VRAM. Even if it doesn't, the 7800 XT will most likely come with 16GB VRAM.

Now, this is just a chance (hope for it to be true, but do not bet on it), but there is a chance that there might be another version of RX 7600 XT with 16GB VRAM. If it is true, then a 4060 16GB version might come. Once again, do not bet on it. Just a possibility.

Hmmm, won't the features of NVIDIA GPU's still even it out? TBH at the beginning I was leaning towards AMD for better price/performance but NVIDIA does have a lot more features and I have had no experience with AMD GPU's before.
