Ram support for 945 board

Can i use 3 gb of ram on 945 motherboard with 775 socket .1 stick of 2gb and another of 1 gb ? I'm using a core 2 duo 1.8ghz processor

You can but it will only run in single channel mode. That should not be a problem.

That would be better but not necessary, you might not notice any difference in speed between single channel and dual channel. You might notice a difference between 3GB and 4GB of RAM.

For Core 2 Quad you need Intel Express Chipset:
Intel 3 Series such as G31
Express Chipsets G965, P965, and 975X

Intel 945G/GC CPU compatibility list only supports up to Core 2 Duo.
