[SOLVED] ram support

hi right now i have a i7 7700k with 4x4gb 2400hz ram. I plan on going to a i9 9900k soon ish i just wanted to confirm my research was correct. the i7 caps at 2400hz ram speed and the i9 caps at 3000hz.

What motherboard are you going to put the i9 9900K?, cause far as Im aware most Z390 mobos will support higher than DDR4 3000, in fact usually 3200/3600 is a good balance between price and "Speed".



Also why buying i9 9900K when theres the new 10th gen out there?

If its for gaming even without overclocking the Core i5 10600K + some DDR4 3200MHz RAM seems to be in a really good spot if you wana stay on Intel. And you should be able to upgrade to the next 11th gen CPU on the line for the socket LGA 1200.

i am just saying the i9 as a example. i was looking into the 10th gen i have no plans on buying it tomorrow seeing as my i7 is perfectly fine for a lot of games. i was told that your cpu can cap your ram motherboard i am not to worried about because when i do upgrade i am getting a asus rog most likely. i was thinking of going for the i5 also just wondering if my ram gets capped by my cpu or is just the mother board that caps it

Well if you go with Intel CPU + overclokable motherboard (chipsets Z390/Z490 for example) then you will be able to go higher than what intel set as default. When you finallly pick a CPU you can ask again for details.

okay so if i dont overclock my i7 its stuck at 2400hz? and if i get a i5 10th gen what is its non over clock speed?
