RAM Timing Vs Latency. Can better latency make up for the speed my CPU can't support?

Hello,

I have a PC with an AMD Phenom II X6 1045t in it. I have 1600Mhz RAMs but my CPU RAM controller can only support 1333Mhz (please correct me if I'm wrong). If that is the case, is there any way I can overclock it to 1600Mhz spec or is that the fastest I can go? My second question is, I currently have Corsair RAM with 9-9-9-24 timing (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9), if I upgrade to RAM that has 8-8-8-24 timing (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8), would that make up for the 300mhz that my CPU cannot support? Also how much do you think I can overclock these RAM if at all with my current limitations of my RAM controller? Any help and tips would be much appreciate it. Thank You :)

Try running the DRAM at 1333 8-8-8-24 1T/1N, the lower data rate will be easier on the MC and the tighter timings will keep performance near same, if you can run the CR at 1N or 1T vs 2, it may be slightly better than the stock 1600/9 may need DRAM voltage about 1.55 and CPU/NB voltage about 1.2-1.25

Hello Tradesman1,
First of all I want to thank you for stopping by and taking a look at my question. I appreciate that. My current CPU is over clocked to 3.2ghz instead of 2.7ghz so my core voltage is about 1.33 already. So lets say my MC supports up to 1333, is it possible to go to 1600 or is it impossible? Also I bought the lower timing RAM (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8). Should I just run it at 1333 8-8-8-24 and leave it at stock or can I overclock?

Can I set it to automatic? Or will that make it unstable? What if I change the timing instead?

Asus M5A97 LE R2.0. Let's say I want to set it to automatic voltage route and manually set it to 1606. Should I use memtest or prime95 to check for stability?

Hello Tradesman1,

I finally received my RAM and applied the settings you recommended. I have some images of my settings attached for you to review. Please review and tell me if my settings are optimal. Also I noticed that Memtest is displaying a different speed than Bios and CPU-Z. I thought they fixed the bug. Will that affect my tests?

Thank You,
Alex

Actually CPU-Z is showing 800 or 1600DDR however memtest is actually getting it all wrong. It's showing 640 or 1280DDR.

Will this affect the accuracy of memtest or whatsoever?
