I have Dell Inspirion 530 computer. It currently has 4x1GB cards (4GB total). When looking on line, mostly google, I get differing opinions on wether I can upgrade. Some sources claim 4GB is the maximum. At least one site says 8 GB (4x2gb cards) will work with Vista Home Premium (which I have). I am an idiot relative to computer configuration. I would love to here from people who know what can be done before making the spend. Is the upgrade to 8gb possible and worthwhile.

It would depend on which motherboard/chipset Dell put in that Inspiron 530. If you can find a name/model no. of the board, we may be able to help. But keep in mind, if you have Vista 32 bit, you won't be able to make use of more than 4GB anyway. It takes a 64 bit O.S. to make use of 8GB.

Thanks Nikorr, based on your first reply, I am screwed -already have 1GB per slot. I was unable to go to the first site, only limited info came up with link. I think I may have veiwed the site already though, as it looked familar, as does the response regarding what the computer can hold. I also downloaded the free version of speccy. I have clicked on the run icon several times, but nothing has popped up to indicate that it is working. I am starting to think it is time for a new computer after only 3 years 🙁.

I just build mine and it is a rocket, compare to my 3 yo : )

That info is I think correct, builders like Dell, they often don't offer room for upgrades.

But u can build one by yourself for a half price that they are selling them for.
