RAM upgrade for Dell Precicision T5500

I just got a Precision T5500 and I was looking to upgrade the ram. I know that Dell says that the max amount of memory per module (in any configuration) is 8gb, but I find that you can usually go beyond what they say. I was wondering if 16gb modules can work or not, and if anyone has tried it what are the effects.

According to Kingston memory website here, 16 GB modules are supported by the T5500.
