ram upgrade for lap

i have bought asus x553ma laptop it has specs like intel pentium quad core processor with 2.1ghz processor and
ram--2gb
but android studio application hangs completly ..as ram is insufficient so could i be able to change my ram to 4gb and will it support my specifications without any lackage .... please reply fast

does upgrading to 8 gb makes it slow down as it is pentium quad core processor and not even i3
