hi,
spec
n4020 CPu
ram 4Gb
asus x543ma

how can i be sure if there is a slot for ram on this laptop motherboard besides opening it?

i have checked asus website but there are almost 10 different config for this model, so i cant find it there.....
if there is no option for ram upgrade, i may swap HDD for a sata SSD (i'm not sure if it support M2 nvme)

thanks in advance 😊

Go to the specifications for that model online and you will see what the hardware specs say

You don’t look at the model and what they come with you look at the actual specifications for the model of laptop that you have and it will tell you how much maximum memory it can support

You can probably update the memory to an eight gig stick if there is only one slot available but check the specs to see what the maximum amount you can put in is

this was the 1st page i checked... but as u see, there are so many different config

You should be able to put oNe 8GB stick of sodium ram in there

I go to crucial’s website and use their little downloadable tool to figure out what memory is compatible with my laptop and then just order that and you can even buy it through Amazon once you know the part number

Run CPU-Z.
On the memory tab, it will tell you how much ram is installed, the speed and if it is single or dual channel.
On the SPD tab, for each possible slot you will get a description of the module installed.
If you see a slot with nothing, it indicates an empty slot into which you could install an extra ram module.

I did not find your particular unit asus x543ma on the crucial ram upgrade site.
There were some that looked close, but no exact match.
If you have an open slot available, I would think you could buy a module with the same specs(type, speed, voltage, timings) as the original and it should work.
Search youtube for a video on upgrading your laptop.

The reviews I saw indicated that you already have a ssd of some sort.
If you look at windows device manager, you can identify the device under the propertied drop down.

hi
under Spd tab, there is nothing in any slot...
i checked 4 of them but all empty

under memory tab, its a 4gb 2400mhz

and no, there is no ssd inside, just 1tb HDD

i think this model is 4gb onboard without upgrade path but a ssd :(

and unfortunately, asus website didn't help at all

I think you are right; no ram expansion is possible.
What you perhaps CAN do is to change to a ssd.
It will make all the difference in the world as to quickness.
If nothing else a ram shortage resulting in access to the page file will be resolved some 40x faster.
Looking at this video on the process, it appears that your laptop uses a normal 2.5"HDD.

The easy way is to buy a 2.5" samsung 860 or 870 evo of sufficient size.
Use a usb to sata adapter cable to transfer your C drive to the ssd and replace the hdd.
Here is a link to the instruction manual and the app:
