I am currently working on a gaming build and all i got left is the ram.

my specs are:

i5 4670k

asus r9 280x top

corsair cx 600w 80plus bronse

asus z87-a

fractal design define r4 white

seagate baracuda 1tb 64mb

SHould i go for 1600mhz or more, go for 8gb or 16gb?

i heard that for gaming you only need 8gb and im currenlty on a budget. Im from sweden so dont post recommendations from newsegg.
Thanks in advance :)

Frecuency is not that important for gaming, the thing you're looking for is latency.. you want it to be as low as possible! Search ones that are CL9
Something like these:

Higher mhz ram won't give you higher fps in games, but it'll make the game have faster loading times and caching, feel overall less choppy and smoother, but 8gb 1600mhz will be fine since your on a budget and no current games need more than 6GB ram (Cod Ghost lol). Try get deals anything that is more then 8gb and 1600mhz

Using 2x8G sticks will give you more space for future upgrades than 2x4G sticks which is a option you should think about.

And think about if you want to do RamDisk or not

AND Video rendering, 3D Rendering, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, Flash use up alot of RAM fast when your dealing with high resolution work so this is also to be considered

i wont be video rendering that much unless a miracle accours (sry for spelling) and i get a gtx 780 for 400$ or so becuse then i will use shadowplay which i think you know is a recording feature. i have no idea what ramdisk is.

That miracle might happen in the future, so going with a 8GB ram would be fine since recording and encoding using any recording utilities isn't affected too much on ram but the GPU and CPU, RamDisk is basically using your ram to create a Local Disk which will be faster then an SSD and HDD in terms of loading times for applications. Usually I use RamDisk to put my games in to improve loading times, problem is you have to wait for others online lol, but its great if you need a certain application to load faster. And btw the local disk size will be what you choose it to be but the maximum will be the amount of ram you have. And before choosing your ram make sure that the cpu cooler is compatible with that ram.

With a 4670 would look at 1866/9 as a minimum, 16GB is good, 8GB would be OK for gaming, best sticks I've worked with on the Haswell Platform are the GSkill Trident X and Sniper models, and height of the sticks don't matter with the EVO cooler the fan is adjustable height wise with no ill effect on cooling

When I built my gaming rig my noctua d-14 was too big that it overlaps the ram slot the 16gb corsair vengence ram is to tall that it was being pushed down applying pressure to my motherboard so I am forced to placed them in the last 2 slots, cause i dont wanna break a $300 motherboard lol, so don't make the mistake I did lol
