I'm currently running with 2 sticks of 4GB ram. I'm looking to upgrade to 16GB. Would it be better to get 2 new sticks of 8GB ram, or could i simply get 2 more sticks of 4GB? I have the slots for it, and don't see any reason to upgrade past 16 gigs in the near future. Benefits and downfalls to each option?

Well...
First off, mixing RAM is never a good idea as it is not always guaranteed to work due to inconsistencies in timings, hence why they are sold in kits.
Second, if it works at all, it will work at the rated speed of the lower unit(2133mhz in this case).

But then again, people do mix RAM sticks at times due to whatever reason and it also does work out fine at times. Its more like taking a chance. If you go for it, make sure you buy the same brand and frequency and also make sure that you have the option to return it in case it does not work.
