Question RAM upgrade question

I currently have 8gb(2x4gb) of DDR4 2400mhz ram from GSkill and I was wondering if I could take the sticks out of the motherboard and switch them with GSkill Trident Z RGB 16gb(2x8gb) ram without any consequences. If i can do this, how do I need to prep my system?

That depends on MB, CPU and BIOS and you didn't quote any of those.
