Hey guys, I hope you can help me with some RAM upgrade info:

My PC model is HP Pavilion Elite HPE-450f with a MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) motherboard and only 8 GB of RAM. I want to upgrade that. It has 4 slots available for DDR3 RAM, and I found the following on RAM on amazon:

--- Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 4 x 8GB DDR3

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-2400MHz-Memory-CMY32GX3M4A2400C11R/dp/B00GM83C86/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440336075&sr=8-1&keywords=32+gb+ram

It's DDR3 so I thought it was ok, but on the HP page it says that apparently only the following DIMMs are accepted:
PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)

source: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02504608

Since I'm kind of a newbie in the RAM area, I don't know what does this mean 🙁 and if the RAM I found on amazon will work on that. Also in the same HP page it says:

"Supports up to 16 GB on 64-bit PCs"

Does this mean 16 GB in total, or in each slot?

Sorry if my questions are dumb, I have no experience in upgrading RAM whatsoever.

If you install faster RAM than 1333MHz, it should just down-clock to 1333MHz and all should be fine. If you're really unsure, you can use Crucial's web site (www.crucial.com), which will give you guaranteed-compatible memory suggestions, which you can just pick from (probably best to pull out whatever RAM is in there, and get a 2-stick kit to replace them).

In addition do you really need that much RAM?

Yes I do, I'm studying VFX and animation, (and I'm also an avid gamer) so yes.

Hi DavAquirre'
In answer to one of your questions, 16 Gigs of RAM is the TOTAL amount of RAM your rig can use, NOT 16 Gigs per slot. Also, most manufacturers of retail RAM publish at least a partial list of what RAM will work for a particular motherboard or computer brand/model. You can try any of these: www.Corsair.com, www.Crucial.com, www.Patriot.com, www.Kingston.com, www.GSkill.com, www.HP.com (just to name a few possibilities). Hope this helps.

Thanks! it's disappointing that I can't use 32GB, only 16, is this because of the motherboard? or is it some other factor?
