Question Ram upgrade

Its been a while. And I'm looking to upgrade my ram from 8 to 16gb. Its an older computer and I would like to hope it would run a bit smoother. Cyber Monday is coming up so I figured why not.
Not sure if my sig shows up on here or not but this is my current set up.

Windows 10 64 bit | I5-3570k LGA 1155
MSI Bing Bang Z77 Mpower | Asus Radeon 270x
Crucial M500 240GB
PSU Antec 850w HCG
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO
Patriot Viper 8GB@2400 MHz

Probably best to look for DDR3 on the used market. (Knowing that you can get a 2x8GB kit of DDR4 for $45) You can probably get a 2x4GB kit of DDR3 for $10-15

I game a little and nothing too serious. Will my motherboard accept DDR4 memory?
I found this ram on Amazon. Same brand I have currently. Current ram is 2400mhz. But this one is 1866. But 16gb. I assume its a downgrade?

I did some research and it looks like your board takes DDR3 memory (I included the link to the page so feel free to check there), so try to look for that type of ram. since you do gaming, 16 gigabytes should be enough, though if you can get a good deal on 32 gigs, that would be great.

DDR4 is not backwards compatible with DDR3, so I would avoid buying that. Link where I found the information referenced.

is it worth the extra money to go higher than 2400mhz? Assuming i can find it higher than 2400. I did check ebay and there doesn't seem to be a lot of choices higher than 2400. I assume its and old system

For DDR3 is 2400mhz already pretty fast, wouldn't bother going higher. Might well run into problems with the memory controller of the cpu and a need for an overclock if that would even help.

You could look with cpu-z for the partnr of the ram, google that and see if you can buy the same at least, have to say that mixing kits might end up in problems even if exactly the same.

Do keep in mind that the rest of your system is VERY due for an upgrade/replacement. Don't spend a ton of $$ (like...hardly any) on DDR3 RAM thinking this is going to solve all your performance woes.

I got a sizeable bump in FPS upgrading my i5-3570K to an i7-3770 (which is overclockable by 400MHz on Z77). You can get an i7-3770 for around $35 on ebay. But then upgrading my i7 to my current Ryzen 5600G gave a similar performance bump.

An R7-270X is somewhere near or slightly below the RX560 in the graph below.
