hey guys, i upgraded my RAM to a 4gb ddr4 card. but when i check the system properties, i see that only 2.97 gigs are usable.i tried to fix it by changing the system memory but now it doesnt display anything

my specs were pretty low
i had a 2gb ddr3 RAM card, nvidia geforce 210 and a pentium g2020 @2.9 ghz
now i have a 4gb ddr 4 ram , nvidia geforce210 and a pentium g4400@3.30ghz

is the motherboard really important?
ram 2gb ddr3
nvidia geforce 210
pentium g2020 @2.9ghz
now
ram 4gb ddr4
nvidia geforce 210
pentium 4400@3.3ghz

Yes, Motherboard is important in this case since your are upgrading Ram from ddr3 to ddr4, need to check if it is compatible for that motherboard.

Peace.

i think it is already compatible cuz my pc reads the 4gb as memory but the problem is how do i utilise it at its maximum. i can only use 2.97!

Every computer is different, when you first turn on the computer it should tell you what button to push to enter the BIOS. It's usually one of the following and you must push it within the first 5 seconds: F1 F2 F10 F12 ESC DEL
Once in the BIOS you have to find the menu with memory remapping, it's different on each computer and enable it.

Try this as well:
1. Click Start. , type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.
2. In the System Configuration window, click Advanced options on the Boot tab.
3. Click to clear the Maximum memory check box, and then click OK.
4. Restart the computer.

Peace.

what is the worst possible outcome if this goes wrong?

Try with this as first:
1. Click Start. , type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.
2. In the System Configuration window, click Advanced options on the Boot tab.
3. Click to clear the Maximum memory check box, and then click OK.
4. Restart the computer.

If its still showing 2.97 usable then try enabling the memory remapping feature in your Bios.

Peace.

i cant find memory remap option.i searched everywhere. its not the regular bios i think in which you can find the option under chipsets and then enable it. in the chipsets section, i could only see something like v-td, internal graphics and something else which were all set to enabled
