[SOLVED] Ram v processor

Laptops arent made to be upgraded, but lets assume your can, as in, the new cpu you'll choose will fit in and will also fit the cooling system etc etc. So processor is the way to go if you want a better overall performance.

Ram is usually easier, some laptops have an slot for an additional stick or its possible get a higher capacity stick and replace, while 4gb is low, even if you upgraded to 8gb, I wouldnt keep my expectations high if i were you...

Simply put, you need a new laptop. Any upgrade that you make probably will not really help much.

That is my answer up there. Now for the why - Firstly your question doesn't have any helpful information. 1.7GHz? Intel? AMD? 1st generation? 9th? 7th? 4th? Next up, most laptops are difficult(you will break something when opening the laptop to change out the processor and thermal tape or grease) to open for the novice. If you KNOW laptops and all the internal ribbons and cables and understand how to remove the keyboard without breaking off the tabs AND the manufacturer allows an upgrade then we need more information. Your laptop has had a model name and a product number. Lenovo Ideapad is NOT helpful. We need ALL of the specs and not just 2 components.

If it turns out to be a perfect world(very doubtful) and you can upgrade then it may cost more than the laptop.

And we need a budget. There's no reason to offer parts if you can't afford them. With that Muslim greeting you could be my neighbor's friend in Cairo or my neighbor in the US. Either way it goes we need to know your region so we don't offer you something from the other side of the world.

Finally we don't know WHY you want to upgrade or what your end goal is. Optimization is a personal journey.

Desktops are easily upgraded. Some laptops allow only the CPU to be upgraded and others allow both the CPU and GPU to be upgraded. Then again the CPU may be soldered to the board and the graphics chip is inside of the CPU(IGPU). Meaning an upgrade is impossible.
