I'm looking to upgrade my build in the near future and I can't decide which to get a SSD or RAM. Right now I only have 4GB of ram and a 1TB WD HDD. Which would give me better performance?
You don't say what you PC use profile is..
If playing games is your thing.. then the mem. (but even then.. only for the latest games where 8GB is becoming a requirement)
But if you wanting windows to feel much faster and more responsive.. SSD (as your OS drive) would be a MUCH better option. SSD wont give you better frame rates etc in games.. if you put game on SSD .. will make it load faster.. but that's not normally a key component of making a game "better".
get more ram. the ssd only will fit on loading... before that is useless. but ram will be fine. You want better performance get the biggest card you can afford.
The SSD will give a more noticable performance boost in windows boot up, multitasking, and general system responiveness (even more then the memory upgrade). BUT, the SSD drive will do nothing to help with gameplay.
So in short, as others have stated Ram first, SSD second.
SSD won't make a difference for gaming,it will make a difference when loading the game considering that you have installed it on the SSD.
In other words,RAM first then SSD.
