Hey guys! I need a bit of help getting my RAM to go up to 1600mhz on my board GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3, I have tried setting the bios to manual ans changing it to 1600 from 1333 but when i do that I get an error message when I try to boot my system.

Do I need to change the voltage? Is the only way to get the RAM up to 1600mhz is to OC? What do I have to do to get my RAM working at 1600mhz?

Here is my full build

Thanks guys

You issue is that the motherboard will only support up to "DDR3-1066 / 1333" as is listed http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga78lmtusb3

I know that the site says that, but specs are sometimes wrong, and a few ppl told me that the board auto sets the RAM to 1333mhz and it had to be changed to manual and set to 1600. A few owners of this board told me that, perhaps they with me?

Overclocking is not just as easy as setting a number to something. You have to adjust voltages, clock speeds, and then test stability. From my experience, it usually causes more problems then it's worth. And really you wont notice that much of a difference. Honestly with your build, I'd invest in an SSD.

This is how I feel every time I've ever tried OC'ing anything.

Thank got I didn't give up like a little , I got the RAM to go up to 1600mhz, a friend gave me some pointers and it worked!

Yes mate,I swear to god I did a build with that same board the week before xmas using corsair dominator 1600mhz cl9.
give me 5 minutes ,im flicking through the manual i still have now

back quicker than expected
the ram will install at 1333 by default ,get your windows install & everything else done
download & install cpu-z
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/1.71.1-setup-en.ex...
run it
goto the spd tab

1.copy the info from the 1600mhz profile EXACTLY as it reads
IF the voltage tab from the 666mhz (to the left of the one ive highlighted) then you dont need to write this the voltage down
some ram sticks run at 1.5v across all speeds, others require 1.65v at the higer speed

2.shutdown pc,boot to bios
3.open the M.I.T tab in bios
goto set memory clock (outlined in yellow) - change it to x8.00
goto dram configuration (outlined in red) - press enter
extra tabs will now come up coinciding with the timing/latency tabs you wrote down from cpu-z
enter the readings that you have written down precisely - correct tab for each option
If the voltage differed in step 1 between the two tabs then go down to system voltage control (highlighted green) & change it to manual
this will open the options below
goto the ddr3 voltage tab (highlighted blue) & change it to your required voltage

save & exit bios
reboot
run cpu-z
open memory tab
your ram should now read as 1600mhz,dual channel in top right box as below

& it honestly sounds much more complicated written down ,than it actually is.

apols - messed up the thumbnails - now working
