Rampage IVE vs P9x79pro

Hi guys,


I'm building a new gaming pc and yes im going for x79, now the reason im starting this thread is because i do not know if its worth spending the extra cash for the R4E or just stick with the p9x79 pro. I can get the p9x79 pro right this minute for my gaming pc, but if i sacrifice my keyboard money i can get the R4E
Now then, im not sure if i will see any to none improvements over the p9x79 board but it would REALY help me a lot if you guys could help me choose, weather to stick with a mechanical gaming keyboard + p9x79pro or sacrifice the keyboard and get the R4E.

Q - How many GPU's?
Q - How are you going to cool the GPU(s)? ; air or water
Q - What and how many monitors?
Q - Do you want 3D vision?

CPU - i7 3820
Gpu- GTX680 DCU2top (single GPU, maybe ill add another but that would be somwhere late 2013)
CPU cooler - Corsair h100
Monitor - Single 1080p (Benq XL2420t 3d)
Sound- onboard
Case- Thermaltake Chaser mk-1

Q - Why the LGA 2011?? LGA 2011 is good IF you need 8xDIMM and/or 6-cores. I have an i7-3930K & ASUS Sabertooth X79, but I do more than gaming on it.

CPU - i7 3820

Then IMO don't get an LGA 2011 MOBO or CPU.

Instead the following:
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K or if only gaming the Intel Core i5-3570K (Ivy Bridge)
MOBO: ASUS Maximus V Formula, or ASUS Sabertooth Z77 - if adding a good Sound Card/external DAC

LGA 2011:
CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K (6-core)
MOBO: ASUS Rampage IV Formula, or ASUS Sabertooth X79 - if adding a good Sound Card/external DAC

im going for i7 3820 coz it can clock up to 4.2 ghz + the p9x79 way because believe it or not in my country its cheaper than going 3770k and Z77

Then see above the two MOBO's I recommend on X79/LGA 2011. The ASUS Maximus V Formula offers decent onboard sound and can easily OC the SB-E. but if i apply that registry tweak do you happen to know if it will be AS fast or not FASTER than ivy? im not quite fond of 1155 coz its kind of at the end of its life where as 2011 will go on for some time and maybe i can keep the board for a longer period and just upgrade the CPU when needed. (btw thnx for all the replies )

Frankly on one or two GPU's PCIe 2.0 x16/x16 vs PCIe 3.0 x8/x8 are exactly the same bandwidth, and the 'perfomance difference is (<1%). The only significant differences I've seen is 4-WAY GTX 680 and near 4K resolutions e.g. 3xHD (5760x1080). As far as 'lifespan' I'll agree as long as Intel produces the IB-E (LGA 2011) and the new Haswell CPU doesn't spank them all. My guess is the Haswell will make folks think hard, and more than likely be the top dog for gaming even 'if' the IB-E offers 8-cores in early 2013. Remember most games are written with the intent of 2-4 cores and not 4-6-8 cores in mind, so for gaming 'per core' performance is where it's at.

THanks a lot i guess ill stick with 2011 then. Ill get the R4Formula+bf3 (its on sale right now) and a 3820. Again thans a buch man!
