Good day guys

I am having issues with my pc lately. Seems like my gpu is causing this but not I'm sure because I've tested my gpu on another pc, well it was running fine. When I tried running on my pc, its just black screen after windows logo and then I cant even access bios because it freezes right after entering bios. Would appreciate if there are any ideas in troubleshooting.

Here are some of the troubleshooting ive done but to no avail:
1. Replace my board with a new one(the old mobo still have the same symptoms, thought maybe replacing the board will do and the old mobo doesnt freezes in bios but only displays 1/4 of the bios screen but if your hover your mouse to the side it views the other 1/4 part of the bios screen)

2. Replace the PSU

3. Memtest

4. Drive sweep using DDU(After performing this, it will eventually get past windows loading screen but during installation of the gpu drivers it just went black. I noticed also that my resolution is locked to 800x600)

5. Ive also tried running without the GPU and the pc works fine.

Would appreciate you advice guys. TIA

My new Mobo is Gigabyte H61M-DS2 rev 5. The old one as Asrock H61M-VG4

My cousin's specs is:
CPU: Intel G3930
Mobo: Asus H110M-K
Memory: 4GB(Not sure of the brand, stickers print are faded)
PSU: Corsair VS550
OS: Windows 7

The settings are on default. I haven't changed the bios settings lately

Its the same cables I used also. I tried using my cousin's pc now and place my HDD to test it on gaming and results was fine. Right now im testing it on Tom Clancy's Wildlands. I've also tried resetting my pc and still has the same problem.

I suggest updating your bios if you haven't yet.

During post/Bios, if you might not be aware, Windows and drivers aren't loaded yet so they have no impact, it's just pure hardware during this time. So if your bios is freezing / missing part of the screen maybe pcie contacts are a bit dirty? Your board is new (second hand) unless its got the same problem?

Can't see it being psu since you've tried that already.

Check your case isn't blocking the video port a bit of the plug, sometimes that can happen and video cable isnt all the way in.

I'm just thinking of things that are on hardware level, as i said your bios problems have nothing to do with windows/drivers.

It is a tough one. If you dont mind, think theres one of these buggers in there...... lol

Good suggestion testing pcie cable with multimeter.

Should mention if it gave any ideas to try another pcie cable to make sure its original. If you have spares for the same psu use those.

Modular (if thats what your psu's have been) cables aren't interchangeable, the pinouts on psu end can be different and the cables the brand supplies can be wired a certain way. So an Corsair pcie cable might be different to say Antec and mixing cables can cause damage.

Same goes for any other modular power connector

Tried to do a general cleaning on the pc then plug it all still them same. Since my card doesnt require pcie cable, how do i measure how much juice my card is getting?

I dont have that multimeter thing yet, might as well borrow from someone. Another thing also is that my card doesnt require pcie cable to be plugged in, is there other way to know how much my card is getting juice?

Oh right Im sorry I forgot to mention that Ive tried updating the mobo also. Yeah youre right, it boggles me too as to why this gpu is somewhat choosy HAHA. This gpu is just almost a year of use now, I just game on it too not mine

No worries saga. I tried earlier using the PSU of my cousin, connected it to my system and still no avail.

That's worth a shot trying other gpu. Although my cousin's pc doesnt have gpu, I might think of where I can borrow one though. Hehe

Here's another thought. I can't track down any information on this but I seem to recall some 1050ti cards were being sold on e-Bay and were actually 550ti re-mastered by Chinese clone makers.

Has yours ever worked? Does it stand up to a minute examination in comparison with your other one?

Hmmm, might be its the PSU since this PSU has been in my service for almost 7 years now. Maybe he's trying to give up now(LOL). Although I've tested the system on a different PSU which still has the same result. This GPU has only been about 9 months now and bought it brand new from our trusted local seller, so I trust that this GPU is not one of those 550ti those Chinese are scheming up to.

I might also try using other CPU or Memory to eliminate them from my suspicion hehe

Cpu would be near the only thing left to try.

Surprisingly two motherboards showed similar malfunctions so maybe it is the cpu.

Your not putting to much heatsink pressure on cpu? The tension screws just need to finger tight then half turn with screw driver.

One other more thing is the old standard - remove one RAM stick and try the system without it then put it back and remove the other to repeat the process.

There's no logical reasoning behind this step but it's one I try on just about every mysterious situation that comes into my shop and every so often, it points to what's wrong.

In other words, I'm out of suggestions on this one. :)

Hey guys, just fixed this issue. I was all out of option until I stumble upon a weird / unusual fix posted on a forum, I think that was a dell forum, so hey why not try this maybe this will work right?:D:D Their advice was, unplug all connectors from your monitor for about 30 secs then plug it again. To my surprise, I was on BIOS with no freezing whatsoever. Hope this helps to some also having somewhat the same issue to try this weird / unusual fix :D:D:D
