Random 1 second black screens with Nvidia 1060

Hi,

Recently (about a month ago) I have been getting seemingly random 1 second black screens on my pc, as if the video card is searching for a feed or display. I can't find a rhyme or reason to it and can't seem to replicate the issues causing it. It happens at any and all points... whether I am typing in MS Word, gaming, searching the web or watching videos.

I have tried to work through some of the suggestions people have made in other forums to no avail.

I recently rolled back my video drivers, then did a clean install of windows to try to get round it, but as I have installed the nvidia drivers the problem has come back.

My system is a self build:
Win 10 Pro 64b
Asus Z97-PRO
Core i7 4790K 4GHz Socket 1150
24gb (2x4 and 2x8gb hyper-x) DDR3 ram @1600/2400
500gb SSD (boot drive)
2x2tb HDD
Nvidia 1060 - 6gb

I have been googling and trying to remedy this situation for about two weeks now. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Does the problem go away if you use a different type of cable?

I have seen poor quality HDMI cables cause issues like you have described.

Unfortunately not. It's an odd one as the cables I've been using have been absolutely fine for three years...

No I don't.

So I think I've bottomed this one out. I use a DVI - HDMI converter to extend my screen to my tv and I think the converter (which was a cheap one) has degraded to the point where it is affecting the input.

I'm not sure if this will resume when I buy a new one, but i never had this problem when I first started using it so [shrugs shoulders]. Thanks for reading and trying to help. If it comes back or changes I'll update.

Did you change the windows default audio format from cd quality to a better one like studio quality? Reset these audio settings.
