Ok, so I'm gonna give you a long read here. I've been having an intermittent problem for the past 2-3 years on my PC. Every once in awhile (2-3) days, the display will blank out to black. The monitor is still on, as I can see that it has a "black glow" instead of just plain black when it's powered off. The PC runs fine, CPU and case fans spin, and everything seems normal except I get no picture. This same problem has persisted through 3+ different Windows 7 clean installs, I believe 2 graphics cards (The current 260X for sure), and 2 different hard drives. I'm starting to wonder if it's the DVI cable. I get artifacts in games every once in awhile that appear to have nothing to do with heat, and my GPU maxes at 80 degrees C on full load. Since temps are ok, and the fact that the problem has still persisted through multiple hardware configurations, can it be the cable or has anyone had experience with anything else?
EDIT: I thought I also might mention that during the black screen sometimes the HHD activity light will stay on fully (indicating it is being used constantly) or even fully off. It's not always like this though and sometimes the light is normal. Another point to mention is when I had to hard restart it today, a Steam game shortcut on my desktop that I placed specifically yesterday went back to where it was originally created by Steam.
