Precursor: I have read and tried suggestions on other threads with similar issues to no avail.

I have 2 monitors, once connected via HDMI and one via DVI. The DVI works with no issue but the HDMI has as of late been randomly been going black for 3-5 second intervals before going back to normal. This mainly happens in games or when watching videos. The system continues to run when the screen black out, i.e videos still play with sound and games continue on, the display itself turns off though.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers for the GPU as well as going to previous versions, but the issue pertains so I don't think it to be a GPU issue. I've opened my PC and reattached all of my components to make sure they weren't loose and sadly, no fix. I have a spare PSU I have yet to try, and will if recommended. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

CPU: Intel 4770k
GPU: GTX 980
PSU: Corsair 750W

Solution
Sounds to be a cable problem. I would suggest grabbing a new hdmi cable for $5 and trying that.Obviously it's not the gpu or psu becasue the dvi/computer still runs fine. IF it's not the cable it's a problem with the monitor.

I do have a spare cable, so ill give that a shot. Can't believe I didn't think of that! Thanks man, here's hoping.

I know this is a bit of a rushed question, OP, but do you know if it works yet?

EDIT: If DVI looks the same and doesn't do any harm, then why the h-e-double bananas wouldnt you keep the DVI in?
