Okay, so I just built this new build like a month ago, and can't fix it.
Here are my specs:
CPU: Ryzen 7 1700
GPU: GTX 1050ti
Motherboard: Gigabyte AB350M-DS3H
RAM: 1 8GB slot of G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 2666 RAM F4-2666C19S-8GIS
Harddrive: A 256GB SSD, its no name but I'm sure this isn't the problem (more on that later)
PSU: Evga 500w 100-w1-0500-kr
OS: Windows 10 Pro ver. 17134
My problem: I will be doing nothing that intensive, just browsing the web or whatever, and my computer will hardlock. The mouse cursor will stop moving and the audio will continue for about two seconds before going "ERRRRRRRR" and then the PC would reboot. It has since stopped rebooting because I turned off auto-reboot and will just hang until I hard reset it. I never see a BSOD or any indication that something is about to happen, it just happens randomly. Yesterday, I went five hours without an issue and then got two in 20 minutes.
Checking the Windows Event Viewer after a reboot, there seems to be no relevant information. It used to give me an error about how it couldn't create a dump file, now it doesn't even show that. What I do get is an Event ID 41 "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." which is under "Kernal-Power" and a Event ID 6008 "The previous system shutdown at 3:48:51 PM on 12/4/2018 was unexpected." no other critical events display other than a distributed COM error about local permissions for an app.
What I have tried: Just about everything. I'm going to break it into different sections:
Software: I have tried reinstalling my video drivers. I have tried rolling the drivers back to a previous version, no luck.
I tried updating my motherboard's Bios. That didn't help either.
I tried "repairing windows" but it would freeze while doing that. I tried repairing windows from a bootdisk, but same issue. Once, it even froze in Bios, so I'm pretty sure it isn't software. And I tried running Ubuntu from a USB to stress test my hardware, and had it freeze on me in that environment as well.
Hardware:
I have tried plugging in a different GPU, that seemed to fix it for a few hours until it happened again, so no dice there.
Since it has failed while booting off of USB, I think that rules out the SSD as an issue. I also ran a SMART test and it came back all good.
I have tried switching the RAM slot and underclocking the RAM to 2333 mhz. I thought that fixed the issue for a few hours before the computer froze again after about five hours of use. I also ran memtest86 off of USB for 11 passes with no errors.
My temps seem fine in HW Monitor with my CPU running between 29 and 38 during normal (non-gaming) use.
So, in my mind that leaves three possibilities. The motherboard, the PSU, and the CPU (please, god no). I don't think it is the PSU because it continues to run normally after a crash, but I suppose it could be a surge or something.
So, what do I do next and how can I narrow down the problem, preferably without buying new hardware? I'm hoping its the cheap-o motherboard I got and not the expensive CPU, but I am open to any and all ideas. Thank you.
EDIT: I should note that I turned off auto-reboot in hopes that it would allow windows to create a dump file, but no luck yet.
