Question Random display flickering on brand new pre-built PC ?

Hi team,

Recently purchased new PC from quite a reliable retailer in New Zealand.

Specs below:

CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
AMD Wraith Prism RGB Cooler


GPU ASUS Radeon RX 6700 XT Dual 12GB Graphics Card


RAM Model Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Kit


Motherboard Model ASUS PRIME B450M-A Gaming Motherboard


Windows 10

PSU Silverstone Strider 650W Full Modular 80Plus Gold Power Supply




Very very randomly my display flickers. Then shortly after my apps will go black, and when i hover my mouse over it it will come right.

Along with this, sometimes with the flickers, small areas on the screen looks like it is getting artifacts.

Sometimes can happen just when browsing the web, quite often it appears straight after gaming, however not all the time.


What I have done

I have re-installed display drivers, updated display drivers
Ensured physical hardware is seated properly
Have a new HDMI cable coming to test that
Nothing in event viewer straight after it occurs

Anyone have any ideas?

Recommended PSU wattage is 650 watts.

Although the installed Silverstone PSU is listed as 650 watts there may be some peak power system demands with which the PSU cannot keep up with....

And may be heat related: "quite often it appears straight after gaming".

Ask the retailer to install another PSU with higher wattage if possible.

Primarily as a matter of testing and elimination....

Just my thoughts on the matter. There may be other ideas and suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. Yes that's the card installed.

Due to covid-19 lockdown, probably easier to just buy a PSU, than return it and have them send it back. I'll buy one, and let you know how it goes.

Also new HDMI cable arrived, no change.

I've also taken note of my GPU temps during, and after gaming. Never goes over 30 degrees.

Also does anyone suggest i perform a full re-install of windows?
