Hi. I have a 3 year old Alienware M17 with:
2x 8GB 2667mhz Ram
i7 8750h
RTX 2070mq (8GB Vram)
Admittedly I have recently rolled back my GPU drivers to 522.25 as any later driver caused issues with Forza horizon 4 (random game freezing).
The issue now is my GPU sometimes "stalls" and it'll go from delivering easy 200+ FPS to struggling for around 10 seconds to maintain above 60fps. After those 10 seconds though the frames will go back to 200+ stable.
The frame lag happens like clockwork, every 10 - 20 minutes there'll be that frame lag and then it'll be fine for another 10/20 minutes.
Whilst installing the latest drivers for my GPU would likely resolve these issues are there any alternative solutions?
Do note I can confirm it's not my CPU as my CPU temps remain around 80 degrees and my GPU rarely goes above 60 degrees... Way below their thermal limits.
Do note this same frame behaviour happens across multiple different games from Rocket League, to Minecraft etc...
