Just built a new gaming rig with vista sp2 installed, and I'm experiencing seemingly random freezes that don't show up in the administrative events log, only that it had to shut down unexpectedly. Here are my specs:

ASRock x58 Extreme mobo
i7 920 CPU
6gb Corsair Dominator 1600
4x intel i25-e ssd's raid0
2x HIS gtx275 sli

I've noticed a number of errors showing up time and time again:

Very confused as to where to go with this, and I haven't found anything online pointing towards a solution. Each time it freezes, I need to do a cold boot, no bsod at all. I've updated drivers for LAN and vid cards, chipset drivers appear to be up to date.

Any advice would be appreciated.

run a Hard Drive diag smart, read and write tests. Most often with freezing its the hard drive. Find out what diagnostic tool your manufacture uses or go and download seatools from seagate.

hope this helps

downloaded seatools, though when i select the raid and try to run a smart test, it tells me the test is unavailable. same with short and long tests, pretty much any basic test it offers. got hdtune free, the read test gives me between 519-600 mb/s.

hmm have you done any tests by removing hardware and trying to eliminate the problem? Try removing one of the video cards or if you have onboard remove them both and go from there. Raid could have something screwed up in there but its easier to eliminate cards first. Also BIOS updates, Driver Updates, Windows Updates.

if all else fails try to reinstall the OS, shouldnt be too bad if you just built it.

bios is up to date (1.40), drivers are up to date, vista is up to date. i also did a fresh os install the other day, though the problem persisted. i hadn't tried removing one of the vid cards, though it'd have to be tomorrow, getting late. thank you for the help so far!

oh gosh, one more item i can't believe i left this out (been running one monitor for a bit). i've got 3 monitors attached to the two vid cards, one on the top card for sli, and two on the bottom for work. when vista boots, all monitors are fine, but one of them switches to a grayscale once vista loads completely. as well, can't find anything relevant to this problem online.

quick question, when installing vista, should i remove all but one card and install the second later?

I tend to install the basics first then add in the "Special" stuff later. use the Nvidia Control panel to set your monitors up. Im baffled on the freezing issue. Have you checked your temps? check the bios for your temp and use something like speedfan too. Not sure if I have anymore tricks for you. :(
