Random high CPU usage spikes

Well, I have a 7 year old laptop, and, for those past years, it worked almost perfectly. Here are the specs, then I'll describe the issue in detail:

i3 m330
4GB RAM
GeForce G105M
Win7 Home Premium, 64 bit version

Ok, like i was saying before, this laptop has always worked well, at least until now. Starting from two or three months ago, I began to notice some random CPU usage spikes, with usage going up to 90-100%, while doing various things, without any explainable reason, making both audio and video extremely laggy, and it never happened before, but it wasn't too destructive at the time, so I just thought that I could avoid the problem. Well, it WAS destructive, because the situation actually got worse little by little with time, and now I can't even watch a Youtube video while being on a Skype or a Discord call without being afraid of that happening. I noticed it isn't about the normal CPU usage caused by those actions, 'cause normally it wouldn't go over 30%, but, randomly, that same usage would just incredibly spike, making everything lag and forcing me to close everything, until the situation "calms" down (which happens after 20/30 seconds after everything is closed). So, I can't get to understand what is the actual cause of all this, and this is why I'm asking: is there anyone who can help me find the culprit and, maybe, eliminate it? And I premise that I scanned my pc with Malwarebytes already, and disinfected it from the malwares I found, but that didn't seem to help at all.
(Sorry for my not-perfect english, but, unfortunately, I'm not mothertongue.)

Solution
These cases happen in old systems. I would suspect overheating because the lag might happen because of thermal throttling. Thus, creating those spikes.

If that's not the case, then you should do a clean Windows install and start over.
