Question Random intermittent boot loop - - - possibly PSU-related ?

Hello All,

I'm reaching out because I've recently encountered an issue with my Corsair RM750 (2021 version) PSU and would like your insight. Here's a bit of context:

About a month and a half ago, my PC randomly rebooted. There was no visible power outage (the lights in the room stayed on), around 5–10 minutes later, it shut down again and wouldn’t power back on. Instead, it entered a loop of turning on and off — the power LED would briefly light up, then turn off, and the cycle would repeat. During each loop, I also heard a clicking noise coming from the PSU, which seemed to get louder with each attempt.

I tried unplugging the power cord and leaving it disconnected for around 5 minutes, but the problem persisted. Eventually, I moved the tower out of its cabinet, opened the tempered glass side panel, and attempted to power it on again. Surprisingly, it started working almost immediately after that — end of story, or so I thought.

Yesterday, the exact same issue happened again. This time, I unplugged the PC and switched the PSU off, but I waited at least 15 minutes (thinking it might be a surge protection feature that needed time to reset). It still wouldn’t start. Again, I removed the tower from the cabinet just like before, and once more, it powered back on as if nothing had happened.

I'm really trying to understand what’s going on. Could this be due to micro power cuts? Or perhaps dust buildup or poor ventilation? (There was some dust underneath the tower near the PSU's exhaust area.)

I'm turning to your expertise to help me figure this out and hopefully prevent it from happening again in the future. Someone can help me with that ?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

my PSU Corsair RM750 (2021 version)
If you suspect your PSU to be the root cause of the issue, source(borrow, not buy) a reliably built PSU with higher wattage than necessary from a friend or neighbor and run your system off of it. If the issue persists, there's a chance that something in your system is overheating and your PSU wasn't to blame.

Thanks for your answer reply @Lutfij and sorry for the lack of informations.
Here is my specs

CPU: Intel i7-12700KF
CPU cooler: Scythe Fuma 2 Rev.B
Motherboard: MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4
Ram: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32Go (2 x 16Go) DDR4 3600MHz C18
SSD/HDD: Samsung 980 PRO 1TB + Samsung 970 Evo plus 2TB
GPU: Nvidia RTX 3070 FE
PSU: Corsair RM750 (2021 version)
Chassis: Nzxt H510 Flow - CA-H52FW-01
OS: Win 11
Monitor: Acer Nitro XV272UP + BenQ GL2460

BIOS version : 1.H0 ( i updated it last year )
PSU : bought from amazon in may 2022

I suspect the PSU but i'm not so sure that's why i'm asking here. FYI, i bought my computer in may 2022 and all went fine since then. the only thing i added in it was the extra ssd Samsung 970 in April 2023. So i guess the problem suddently happened for some reason that i can't find. I was suspecting under voltage power outage too.

The RTX 3000 series did have high transient load spikes, stressing PSU's beyond their comfort zones;

it's why users were advised to overprovision on their unit's wattage during a PSU purchase aside from look at a reliably built unit.

I was suspecting under voltage power outage too.
Please keep in mind that if you do actually have an issue with your wall outlet, a brand new PSU isn't exactly going to solve everything. Bring in a certified electrician to scope out your wiring and the wall outlets, then borrow a PSU as stated in my prior post.

It would also be a good idea to have a UPS if you don't have one.
