I have the newest drivers, I reseated my cpu cooler, my issue is that when I play BeamNG.Drive (where most of this issue occurs) I get some weird lag spikes I have monitored my gpu and it seems that when these lag spikes happen the gpu mhz goes lower. When I play The Division MAXED at 1080p which is way more intense than BeamNG, it never lags stays at a solid 50-60 fps sometimes 10-30 on loading screen, also the cpu is way hotter playing the division so I know its not the cpu but it still can be of course. My specs:

GTX 980
FX 8370
16 GB Ballistix Sport
2TB SSHD + 500gb HDD
PSU Corsair CX750M
Hyper 212 Evo

Solution
How are the temps of the FX 8370 cpu.

If you have cool and quiet enabled in your bios along with P wait sates.
And amd auto, core Turbo boost it may be the cause.

So try disabling them if the cpu temps seem fine.

Also go to the power options of windows.
Select high performance.

Click apply, ok.

Restart the system once again after the changes.
And test to see if the lag spikes have gone.

Default 4000 MH/z with Turbo Core Control on.

Not quite what I meant. Using task manager or the like what does the CPU usage of each core look like. Physics calcs are typically CPU heavy and it is possible that engine is single threaded thus loading one core to 100% slowing you down.

Sorry, It average is around 20-34%. Sometimes Higher

Also each core in AMD Overdrive seems to be used evenly. Not one core alone at 100%

Hmm you might just be running into some sort of bug being as it is an early access title.

How could this only be happening to me though? Any thing I could do?

There isn't a lot of info on this game I could find so IDK if this is typical for AMD FX's or not. I would make sure all the drivers are updated and did you try Shaun o's suggestions?

OK Thanks

Thanks so much! I THINK disabling core boost fixed this, why would I even want that enabled, I'd way rather prefer to overclock my self!
