My guess would be either sound or video card drivers. Try some new 3rd party drivers, or the IRQ9 problem. Try those 3 things I am sure it is one of them.
Good luck!

I hate picking fights... but it's so fun

im probably missing it, but i cant seem to find the posts on irq9 and acpi

yea itd be nive if it worked without problems..... but thats what you inheret with MS products

here I go again ;-)

the most common problem with A7V lock-up wise is some obscur AGP drive strength issue that many (but not all) of us have. suggest you run your system at "Normal" bios setting rather than "Optimal" for awhile and see if lock-ups stop. if it works on "Normal" you nailed it. the "Optimal" problems did not stop for me until bios v1006 and now I'm kicking butt.

ACPI should not matter, I've done a clean install "standard pc" (which eliminates ACPI) and while this makes the irq's look very pretty it works no better than ACPI installed with a dogpile on irq9 or wherever(its easy to panic but remember this is 2000/NT5... no more DOS irq stuff thank god...); although a sound technical arguement can be made for "standard pc" installation on A7V.

also, make sure you install 2000 on A7V with Plug N Play turned OFF in bios. Later

Well, i got the new Via 4in1 drivers and that stopped it for about a day. now it still does it..... What does turning off the plug n play when you install win2k do? should i just turn it off now, or am i forced to reinstall?

grab the asus bios update and install bios v1006. then set your bios to run machine in "normal". if its stable you've nailed the problem. then switch to "optimal" and see if it works for you. PnP off is reccommended method for installation, but I dont think thats coming into play here... still I'd do that at some point.

Did you put the Windows 2000 patch for AMD processors, wich adress excactly that bug ?

www.amd.com

go to support and patches...

fixed the bug for me

I've done this all, even changing to normal from optimal, and i tried the new bios flash.... its still does is on certain webpages like (thes 2 always lock me up)www.uorares.com, http://cleancash.cjb.net sometimes Hotline and Napster freeze too.....
AMD.com did it once after many times going there..... but i still get random lockups in general. only thing that doesnt lock up is when i play UO
