Hope that this is in the right place. Recently I upgraded my CPU and started getting the occasional random shutoff and reboot. This has occurred whether my rig was gaming or just sitting idle. Hoping that it is not the processor, but I still have the old one just in case. Any help would be appreciated!

Setup:
New CPU- AMD FX 8300
Old CPU- AMD FX 4300
GPU- EVGA 1050 SC
HDD- WD Blue 1TB
PSU- Allied 350W

can you check your Event Viewer logs? press winkey+xv. tree navigation. customv iews. administrative. scroll down until you see Critical kernel. if its 41. its definitely a hardware issue. also check other errors/warnings right before the time of shutdown. it may give us clues on the software/driver level.

and another thing 350W may be too low to provide power to all your hardware right now. random shutdowns is a symptom to that. get at least a 550~650W PSU. dont cheap out on the psu as well :D its the heart of your system. and is reusable for as long as 10-15 years.

Yes there is an error 41 from when it shutoff, would that be a PSU, CPU, or MoBo based issue?

Thanks for the quick replies! I will try picking up a higher Wattage PSU tomorrow from my local shop and see if that fixes the issue. I've just been using the one that came with my system when I first got it a year or so ago.

UPDATE: Just got a new PSU, it's an EVGA 600W 80 Plus certified unit. Cost me $50, but if it keeps my system happy than it was worth it! :)

Well I thought that would have fixed it, but It just happened again five minutes ago....:( Guess I'll swap in the old processor and hope that fixes the issue.
