Random Question about HDD!!!!

Just wandering if using a external hard drive as your information storer will hinder the 3gb/s performace oppose to getting a Internal hard disk drive! thanks.

yes, the transfer rate, presumably usb is slower. usb 2.0 alot, 3.0 usb faster. look it up on the net. Don't know off hand, but alot slower than 3gb/s. Depends what your needs are for computing & storage.ext is great for back up, but plan strategically when using b/c of lack speed. start back up b/f bed. If you can go w/ a plan for both. internal upgrade and ext. for back up. hope this helped. bleu

thanks alot, sounds right, i was going to do that because hard drives seemed expensive opposes to going to computer company where i could stick two 2 tb external drives down pants.

As long as you use eSATA or USB 3.0, there is no problem. Single mechanical HDD will not saturate the bandwidth of eSATA or USB 3.0.

hey pyree, this is responding to what you said on the other thread, i am making a pc but not yet, just looking at heaps of things, so many factors to consider, been looking up this *** for a while, 3 months and feel like i only gone in knee deep, ha, yer i did read that sticky for the new build template and i would use that, thanks for you support " aussie patroitism"

what do u mean when saying use esata? more specifically. are u refering to the hdd itself esata hdd or is it a esata motherboard or esata mechanism/(controler) on the mothetrboard?

I trying to figure out so i can get a bigger, faster internal hdd or hdd/ssd hybrid drive.

Why spend the extra money and get a hdd drive my laptop can't keep up with. thanks, Bleu

eSATA is a connection of HDD outside of the computer case (external connection for storage) but is exactly the same as internal SATA, only the connector is different (modified physically so it is better suited to use externally and more durable for repeated plugin/removal).

To get eSATA on a laptop, your laptop must have a port already or you can add one via the expresscard slot (if there is one on your laptop).

Laptop internal storage:

If you want storage and speed on your laptop, you can put 2 HDD in your laptop (one SSD and one HDD) if your laptop has 2 HDD bay. Otherwise, you can remove the OD and put the HDD on the OD bay with a HDD caddy, if there is one that fits your laptop.
