Random reboots and freezez

Aug 24, 2002
I am experiencing random reboots and computer freezing. This mostly happens when playing World of Warcraft but also in the normal OS environment.

3000+ AMD 64
Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 Mobo
Gigabyte 6600GT (pci-e) 128mb
2x512 HyperX Kingston PC2700 CL2
36GB Raptor (main, OS)
80gb hd+120gb hd
SB Audigy 2
450W PSU

I have latest drivers for graphic card and mobo. I havent turned up anything in bios like CPU or RAM. A check on CPU temp after a reboot doesnt give any strange values (maybe temp goes down right after reboot?)
i notice you have pc2700

If you are running a 400mhz FSB which i beleive the 64bit processor does. i could be wrong. Pc2700 RAM runs at 333mhz.

If that is the case then it appears the RAM is being overclocked and therefore locks up.

I would suggest getting faster RAM (pc3200 or better) and take those back.

i noticed just now the wattage - 450 should be enough ... Lock ups though is typically associated with bad RAM or overclocking.

do a google search for memtester and check that out. Its a memory tester.

Download and run Memtest86+ (it's the version specifically for a64 chips).

Let it run overnight (at least), should be NO errors. Memtest86+ loops continuously, there is no "end".

Mobile XP 2600+ (11X215)
Abit NF7-S v 2.0
Maxtor 60GB ATA 133 7200RPM
1 gig Corsair XMS PC3200
eVGA 6800GT
Enermax Noisetaker 420 watts
Win2K sp4
just make a bootable CD. It boots right off of it and pretty much starts on its own.

I would not use any memory tester in windows. It's best to boot off a disk so if/when there is a memory failure you're not risking any data corruption.

Recently had same problems with 2900+AMD with Chaintech MOBO. Restarts, temperature problems, and voltage warnings. Mostly while gaming.
I had updated Video card driver to the wrong version. MS OS 64 bit version.
Installed the correct Video driver and the problems resolved.
