Hello everyone,

At the beginning of this year, my newly built PC was experiencing random reboots and extremely loud buzzing sounds from my PSU. Half a year later, and this problem is still not completely solved.

The situation in summary: My pc locked up randomly and rebooted, with extremely loud buzzing sounds coming from the PSU every now and then.
Here are the system specs:
GTX 780ti
Ryzen 5 2600
32GB DDR4 3200MHZ RipJaws RAM (2x16) clocked at 2933.
1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD
256GB Crucial SSD
Gigabyte P650B PSU (650 watts)
Gigabyte B450M Aorus Elite motherboard
3x Deepcool RF120FS case fans at the front (all 120mm)
Windows 10 64bit

Since then, the situation has changed. The random reboots are extremely rare from what I have observed overtime, maybe only happening once a month. However, as time moved forward I also experienced my USB devices randomly disconnecting. My mouse, keyboard and PS4 controller as well as a tablet which I used to play OSU with.

Just the day before yesteryday, I switched the P650B with a Corsair VS550. The mouse disconnects still persist, randomly, doesn't seem to be as frequent as before though.

Finally, here are all the things I've tried aside from swapping out the P650B with the VS550:
Using different USB ports. (the front panel connectors also seem to be affected).
Updating my BIOS to the latest version.
Stress testing every single component which I can (GPU with Kombustor, CPU with Prime95, RAM with Memtest86 which passed all phases).
Disabling USB suspension in Windows power options as well as disabling "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in device manager for all USB controllers and USB devices.
Updating graphics drivers.
Setting RAM to 2133MHZ, disconnects still happen.

Today I'm planning to reinstall Windows completely.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thank you.

The one time where I had issues with significant noise coming out of the PC's line out through the amplifier, it turned out to be the old PSU being on its way out and the noise went away after swapping the PSU out.

I had some issues with the whole USB subsystem dropping out a few weeks ago and it turned out to be caused by my USB3 freaking out under load when there is more than one device plugged in regardless of where the hub gets its power from or whether the devices connected to it are self-powered.

Disconnect all non-essential peripherals and devices, see if that helps, If it does, one of the things you removed must be either the cause or trigger.

Thanks for the insight, unfortunately even when using the bare essentials (my mouse and keyboard) the random disconnects still happen. If it were the USB subsystem, would I have to replace the motherboard?

All the USB ports come from the chipset, as are all of the support components. Yes, if the problem is something that affects all USB ports no matter what, then you may need to swap the board out.

BTW, mice and keyboards can be defective too. Try different ones to rule that out. Someone solved his USB disconnect issues by changing keyboard a few weeks ago.

Oh, so a single peripheral could be causing all this? I'll make sure to try a different mouse/try the mouse on another computer. Thanks for your help.

Yes, that was the point of removing all non-essential hardware first - find out whether anything non-essential might be the cause.

Now you are one keyboard and mouse away from blaming the motherboard.
I see, I thought at first that the more devices I had plugged in, the more likely this would occur due to the USB controller or power supply not being able to handle that many devices, looks like I had my whole mindset wrong. I know for a fact it's not the keyboard because I had recently changed keyboards, and this issue was present with the old one. I'll see If I can borrow a mouse from some mates and report back. I appreciate all the help.

Update: Just played GTAV for an hour with a different mouse. The mouse I was using before was a Logitech G203. Now I switched to some HP office mouse. During my whole time playing, the mouse didn't disconnect even once. This is looking promising. I'll look to keep using this office mouse over the next few days.
