Laptop: Lenovo y700-15ACZ. Fx-8800p. R9 M385x. 8 GB Ram. Win 10. About two weeks ago was my first random restart when turning on my laptop to play a game (rocket league). I let it restart, logged back in played again then restarted again 0.0 . Thought it would be thermal issues so I cleaned up a lot of the built up dust on the intake + fans, which of course did not help. Now fast forward a couple days I'm still getting restarts when doing something intensive but it now moved to browsing/downloading! Today was the first time my screen now freezes and dims, then all of a sudden goes black which I then have to restart in order to get it working again, the computer is on because I hear the music (which I purposely set too see if it would stop as well) so it hasn't restarted like normal. I fully resetted multiple times which did not help, as well as removing the battery and discharging it. I can't even open CMD in order to scan to see if anything is wrong (when I was able to open up cmd before the black screens the scan said nothing was wrong multiple times). I'm completely stuck ~.~, nor do I want to pay geeksquad or something since I'm only 15 with 50 bucks in my pocket (if you guys think necessary then I will consider). Most of my actions in order to fix it were clean uninstalling display drivers, hard resetting the laptop, cleaning out fans, and discharging battery. If you guys have seen similar issues (random restarts doing something intensive or black screens while opening a program like CMDor downloading a program like steam please let me know)

Solution
Not sure (full disclosure) about what is going on or otherwise happening.

My first suspicion is that there is some file corruption. Second would be some erroneous configuration change made by an application or some update that occurred.

Use Task Manager and the Services tab to look at "DCOM" related services. See what is and is not running. Check the dependencies as will. May be some domino effect you can track back to some specific failure and cause.

In addition, the logs probably are providing some information that someone else could spot and respond to. No problem with that from my end.

Keep checking the logs and post additional listings as you become familiar with the information being output and some common patterns.

Try using Event Viewer to see if the logs have captured any error codes or warning messages.

How full is the hard drive/SSD drive?

Try uninstalling as many programs as you can - especially any games that you no longer play.

Have you done any maintenance on the laptop? For example, emptying the Recycle Bin, running CCleaner, AV software etc.?

The objective is to eliminate as many possibilities as you can and narrow down the problem's source.

An error message or warning code could be very helpful.

286GB free of 317GB on the drive where windows is installed and 592GB free of 592GB. No games installed but currently installing steam to try download a game and test it. No programs that i have installed other than google, steam, and latest amd drivers. I have not run CCleaner or AV software but I will if needed tomorrow. Recycle Bin is empty.

In the meantime take a look at the following link:

http://help.infinityqs.com/help/en/ProFicient/Content/DMS/OPC-DCOM/ConfigureDCOM.htm

Not that you necessarily need to do anything with respect to the link - just explore the settings.

Look for other links and include a few more of the error codes as search criteria. Narrow down the possibilities before taking any specific actions.

E.g.:

https://www.aggsoft.com/asdl-dcom-opc-config-2.htm

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/volume-activation/configure-client-computers-vamt

Your objective is to find more information that is relevant and/or applicable to your environment. Information that clearly indicates some match to what you are experiencing.

The problem may be simple, may be complex. But knowing what the problem is will hopefully help with finding a viable fix.

Solution
Hey! so good news, I followed your links which lead me to the DSOM stuff, authorized some stuff through regedit and component services and no more black screen/restarts but I forgot to say this on my first post but when my game crashes it leads to a BSOD stating "Thread stuck in device driver". Got any clues? clean uninstalled drivers using DDU and i let windows download drivers this time and it downloaded the latest 17.9.1 but the game immediately stopped working and crashed BUT did not go to BSOD *whew*

What game(s) - still Rocket League?

Not sure where Windows may have found and downloaded the drivers in question....

Download and install the applicable drivers via the manufacturer's website.

However, bear in mind that while Windows may download and install the newest driver it is really an older driver that will work.

What driver did Windows install?

Well just to be safe I reset the laptop last night because I wanted a clean slate with no drivers or whatsoever. It downloaded 17.9.1 but I found out it only supported my discrete gpu and not my fx-8800p. I’ll reinstall steam later in the day and see what happens. Thanks for the help so far!
