I added a gtx 660 cu gpu and a new sandisk ssd with a new install of windows 7 and 2gb of ram just to install everything and add more ram later also i reset the cmos everything was running fine 134 updates was installed then the restarts started to happen any help thanks.

Thanks for the reply
I had a psu problem about 5 years ago and it would shut down the pc completely and wouldn't be able to turn the pc on for several minutes are psu's different nowadays? Gona get new ram on Monday to narrow the problem down.

Random restarts can be caused by just about everything. You'll need to narrow it down before you start pointing fingers at any particular thing. First try some basic trouble shooting such as checking your system event log around the time before the reboot for errors and checking for crash dumps.

Hi I'm running prime95 to try and narrow my problems down so far the computer has been running for nearly 2hrs under stress with no restarts as before restarted after only half an hr and then all the time once the computer was on, just seems strange that the computer restarts when idle rather than under stress?

If ram isn't the problem (assuming you tried with another slot and another stick) then I would point out to psu. I would go for Corsair AX series (7 years warranty) they are one of the best you will find in market now
else you can choose one of these

Hi thanks for the reply.
The psu is a corsair vx550w (if not faulty) I've just read the motherboard instructions booklet and apparently the motherboard scans/tests the ram installed on the mb and if it thinks it's not compatible it will reboot and tests the ram again and reboot again etc my ram is not listed on the recommended section also depending on the mhz you chose you can install 2x4gb or 4x4gb (1866 etc) that's why other people could be having the same problem if choose 2133mhz then 2x8gb is fine but not 4x8gb etc.
