Random restarts with Windows 10

So, basically I installed Windows 10 way back at release, and although everything is fine in general, I've been having a problem with random restarts. It never occured with Windows 7 and happened to me on the first day of 10, and a few times afterwards.

I mainly use my rig for gaming, and the restarts are generally when my PC is under no real load/idling.
I've checked all the auto restart for updates and the like are turned off.

It was only a minor annoyance in the past, and I could never find an answer anywhere for it, so I eventually gave up on it and forgot all about it.

I then noticed it happening when playing Football Manager, as my PC is practically idling when it's running. Forgot about it again! And now that I've started to play Darksiders, I've run into the problem again.

The problem never occurs in any recent games, and has only occured when playing Football Manager, Darksiders, browsing the web, completely idling.

Anyway, it's more of a minor annoyance than anything. No BSoD, no error upon start up, no recommendation of booting in safe mode. It just seems to do a clean restart.

If anyone has any idea as to what's going on, I'd appreciate some help.

Thanks! :)

Do you have an Asus motherboard? what model?

The Device

The device is a BIOS component found on Asus motherboards to allow Asus utilities and software to communicate with BIOS components. For example, Asus USB 3.0 UASP boosting software may need this device to be working.

update your motherboard drivers and this should go away. Make sure you have latest bios as well.
then run driver booster to catch anything you missed,

I have the exact same issue and have done for quite sometime, people suggested it could be my power supply or GPU, I tried changing both and it still happens, I think it's just windows 10 tbh.

Yeah, it seems to be common with ASUS motherboards from what I've gathered. Upgraded my GPU recently and still happening. Not upgraded my PSU, but I'm genuinely convinced it's a software issue and not hardware.

The best information on the issue I've been able to find so far, but it seems the problem persists.

I agree, I think it's a software based issue.

So, I had done a clean install of Windows 10, and for a few weeks the issue was gone. I've had a look at device manager again, and as well as the critical Kernel power error, I'm receiving a warning for Kernel PnP, event ID 219. "The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\PNP0A0A\2&daba3ff&1."

I think whatever that driver is could be the root of the problem. Any help?

Nice find. Indeed it is an Asus H87M-E. Device Manager had no problem finding the AMDA00 driver, apparently AI Suite related from what I gathered from around the net, but followed those steps anyway. The restarts still occured, Kernel Power error just a few minutes after the AMDA00 driver failed, too. So it seems they're definitely linked. I have now upgraded to the latest BIOS and I'll report back how that goes.

Out of curiousity, thouh; any idea why it only happens when the PC is practically idle?

Alright! So far so good in terms of restarts, but won't count my chickens just yet as my PC decides to behave itself now and then anyway.

Having a look at the even manager, I seem to be getting the critical Kernel power energy error message for before Windows boots, yet the power hasn't cut out at all on the BIOS screen. Also got the message about a unexpected shutdown at 7:25 PM, even though my PC was up and running until 7:40 PM without any issue.

Well, no reboots since updating the BIOS. :)
