Hey guys, a few days ago my computer started randomly restarting, just freezing and then restarting. No bsod or anything. When I check the system log I get error 41.

I’ve done memtest86, all fine. Updated the bios, updated drivers, stress tested each component, basically get a few minutes into each test and it freezes. Sometimes it just freezes when I’m using chrome. I’ve been using OCCT to try and stress my psu, voltages seem ok. Only thing I can’t really test is the motherboard. CPU temp maxes out at around 70c and the gourmet sits around 65c.

Asus maximus ix hero
i7 7700k
Corsair h100i cooler
Corsair 16gb (2x8gb) ddr4 3000mhz
Thermaltake 750w toughpower grand 80 gold
GTX 1080ti asus strix
2x 250gb Samsung ssd
1x 1tb Samsung ssd

I’ve pretty much started to think it’s either the motherboard or the psu causing this but it’s so hard to tell! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

You can ignore the Event Error 41. This is basically saying the system shut down unexpectedly. You'd get the same error by simply pressing the reset button. So it doesn't indicate what the problem is, just that the problem is shutting the PC down (which you already know from the black screen!).

Being as you said the restart can occur whenever, can you confirm if it still occurs in safe mode?
What voltages were you reading on the stress test?
What CPU and GPU temps are you reaching (individual CPU cores, not just whole package)
Depending on above - may also be worth removing GPU and running on integrated and seeing if the issue repeats.

I formatted the drives, reinstalled windows. Didn’t help. The core temps are fine, not overheating.

I replaced the psu today with a Corsair rm850i and we was working for about 4 hours, walked away for a little bit to come back to everything off and now it won’t boot at all, the motherboard is lit up but the power button won’t do anything and the power button on the motherboard won’t do anything either, guess I found out the issue was the motherboard?

This thing is killing me!
