Hi guys,

i am experiencing some random restarts with my PC and am not quite sure what might be causing it...?

Specs:
  • Ryzen 5800X
  • ASUS TUF 3060 ti
  • 32GB RAM
  • COOLER MASTER V 650W 80 PLUS GOLD
  • GIGABYTE B550 I AORUS PRO AX AM4
It tends to happen in games occasionally and in Lightroom / Photoshop / Premiere also fairly randomly, perhaps when doing more intensive tasks like opening big files or exporting.
Temperatures are normal, so i don't think its heat related.

I am thinking either RAM or PSU, but how would i find out what causes it? Are there any error files that would give me a clue? 650W is maybe on the lower end for this setup, but apparently adequate?
I did run only one pass of memtest86 without fault, so RAM should be OK? Might run it again for a few more passes when i have more time.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

This really sounds like a power supply issue. That does not look to be the greatest quality power supply I’ve ever seen
How old is the PSU in your build? As for your motherboard, what BIOS version are you on at the time of writing? You forgot to mention the OS you're on. Please mention the version(not edition) of OS if on Windows 10 and the source of your installer. Got a link to the ram kit used?

  • PSU and all other components were bought in July 2021, so still pretty new.
  • Current BIOS version is F13
  • Version 21H2 of Windows 10 Pro, downloaded from Microsoft directly if that was your question?
  • Link to the RAM kit

I did a bit of research and found out that i can prevent Photoshop from crashing by turning "Use of Graphic Processor" off, so its got something to do with the GPU / PSU?
I installed the newest NVIDIA drivers which did not fix it.

Usually it crashes when i open more intense files, so maybe there is a spike in power consumption from the GPU which causes the PSU to overload and restart? Its kind of random to be honest as i limit my fps to 120 and it had crashed in FIFA21, which isn't all that demanding?? Temps are fine, so its quite a weird issue ???

Cooler Master 650W 80 PLUS Gold isn't a good PSU?

What should i get instead?

Hi again, i am thinking it is the PSU but can someone recommend one to me please? I thought the Cooler Master 650 W 80 Plus Gold was fine?

What should i get instead? Apparently the 3060 Ti ( and maybe others from the 3000 series, too? ) can have power spikes so maybe that is tripping my 650W PSU?

So i did change the PSU to the corsair 750w platinum and have not had any issues since. I would have thought the Cooler Master 650W would have been enough, but evidently not. Added bonus of easier cable management due to the sleeved cables the corsair came with 👍
