Random Seed

Listed as a on/off option at game startup, what does it mean?

Does it have anything to do with eg enemy archers with only one hit point
sometimes requiring three cavalry to finish off.

Great game btw. Used to play at emperor level in Civ2 but regent level is
giving me a tough time. Highlight, so far, is Bismarck calling me a
'schwein' for gratuitously destroying one of his cities before giving a
right royal teutonic tanning.

If preserve random seed is off, you can reload the turn and get different
results. If on, reloading will always produce the same random results if the
same sequence of events is repeated.

Thanks, that explains why that particular cheat never worked.

You can on the other hand change the order of events and change the
outcome. I had one case where I was trying to get the best final
attack I could before I called peace. My forces where spread thin so
I didn't have much to deal with. For some reason the order I made my
attacks in made a huge difference. It took half as many troops to
accomplish the same goal.

Yes, I've clocked that. Don't like doing it though but having an archer
defeat a cavalry attack is too much to bear.

I wonder how many other players do this. Anyone care to own up?
