Random shutters, Windows 10 1511

I experienced a short shutter, like a second , in anything that have audio, music I am listening.
- It came randomly and unexpected
- last between 1 to 2 second
- Windows, mouse, clock, doesn't appear to be freeze
- Video run smoothly, audio shutter randomly

Happens on,
- ALL Video Players , any player, it's universal. KMplayer, VLC, Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, etc.
- ALL Browsers, like listening to Lite.fm, watch youtube.

I searched around with some says :
- DPC latency ( Can't figure a thing, always says ' wdf01000.sys ' )
- Intel Network Driver ( LAN ) ( Very Latest available, direct download from Intel )
- HDD ( bad sectors ) ( Disk Info, CheckDisk ,SMART, reported : OK )
- Dying processor ? ( Intel Processor Diagnostic Utility reported : OK )
- Bad rams ? ( Memtest , run for about 1 day : OK )


Things i done,
- Reformated whole PC
- Deleted / wiped partition and recreate partition
- Updated BIOS to the very latest , v2803 for Z97M-PLUS
- Updated every possible drivers, Intel HD 4600, Intel 1218v Network driver, Intel MEI, Realtek Audio v6.0.1.7687
- Scanned for virus using Hitman Pro, Avast, Malwarebytes , Report : OK, Clean, Healthy
- Disable Superfetch


Anyone can help me on this?

^ That is a very well structured method of describing your problem to the community - good job! :jap:

We would however need to know your full systems specs such as ram, GPU, storage and PSU. Provided you don't have an Nvidia or AMD GPU in your system then the stuttering can only occur from the audio device i.e Realtek soundcard on your Asus Z97M-Plus motherboard. Mind you we're also assuming that you are running off the analog ports on your motherboards sound card and not via USB for your USB headset. If that is the case then please state your audio equipment as a follow up.

So onto the audio issue...there is a known issue all over the www that Realtek devices produce a pop, crackle or muffled sound after users migrated to Windows 10 irrespective of an upgrade or a clean install. You can try donwnloading from Realtek's driver download page with R2.79 but from what I've suggested, it's no good. The obvious conclusion is that the OS isn't communicating with the hardware(via the drivers) and that is why you either hear a stutter or some such issue.

I could suggest being patient but I can't tell you when the resolution will come about.

* Just to be sure, you recreated your bootable USB installer for Windows 10 prior to installation right? and you've removed all of the above antiviruses and left only one on your system? 😀
** You're not using any wireless adapters for connecting to the internet are you?
 
Hmm... I am using TP-link Nano Wireless USB as my computer is far away from the router.

I use the ISO and burn to a DVD, I delete the main OS partition and it's reserve partition after i upgraded from the windows update.

I use a 2.1 Altec Lansing VS4621 which bought a week ago. I have a forum of ongoing and frequent updates/release of Realtek driver.

Currently using 6.0.1.7696 .

My system specs as follow
- ASUS Z97M-PLUS
- 2x 4GB Kingston DDR3 value RAM
- I use 4 HDD, 1x WD Blue (1TB), 2x WD Green (1TB), 1x WD Green (3TB)
- Cooler Master V700 ( a year old only )
- No sound card , No Discrete Graphic Card
- Wireless Mouse and keyboard 2000, Microsoft
- DVD-RW, Samsung
- couple of casing fans, CM 690 III
 
Hmmm x2 ... Could you shoot us a link to that forum? I used to follow a forum on hardwareheaven.com where I got my Realtek devices to be seen as Creative's X-Fi MB software add on.

That audio equipment says volumes (pun intended) as you're using the analog connections off your mobo. The issue can be pinned to your onboard soundcard and its drivers as they work fine when running on an older OS(as per those who use the same board). I don't think I need to retrieve your wifi dongle's drivers as you will know where to download them from 😉 I asked for your wireless adapters since Broadcom devices and their drivers have been alot of trouble for Windows 10.

The last update is for Windows 7.

But when i use the wireless reciever ( TP-Link) on Windows 10, it uses the driver that came with Windows 10 itself, it detect the dongle, install the device with realtek driver.

by the way, why ask about wireless? Is it because wireless can cause audio shuttering with DPC latency ( I have seen people on various forums stating so ). Some even disable it, both the LAN and wireless, but still experience shutters.

I assumed you owned a Broadcom or a Killer wireless adapter(prior to getting additional info from you) and that has been the bane of Windows 10's downfall. As it is the OS is a little on the flimsy side seeing how every one is scrambling to fix things. I asked to see if any drivers may be conflicting with OS and even though you may have a point with latency, you won't perceive it unless you have a graph in front of you to tell you its taking place. Also to give food for thought, if you did have a recording studio setup then yeah minimizing latency is your key objective.

The last update is for Windows 7.
Actually according to this site the latest drivers are meant for Windows 7 if version 1 and if version 2 then the highest support you get is Windows 8.1. In either case I see you installing the drivers in compatibility mode. With automated update for device drivers yeah that is bound to happen where OS installs drivers upon bootup.

Hmm.. i have the V1 drivers as mine is V1. The driver they provided inside is by Realtek. Which means only Windows 7 is the last one they updated.

The driver file name is : rtl8192cu.sys

while Windows 10 itself gave me rtl8188cu.sys
- Uninstall the device through Device Manager gaves me the same 8188cu driver. Only two different dated versions of driver.

is this somewhere wrong ? I have no connectivity issues though.
 
I Currently use the built-in Windows audio driver (HDAudio).

22 - 23 December
So far i didn't experience any shutters yet, will need to test for a few days to confirm.

Will report back if this solution works. Cheers!
