Hi all,

I just built a new PC over the weekend and it has run smoothly with the exception of random fps stutters when I play video games. It has occurred the most frequently while playing Valorant, but also occurs in other games and I'm not really sure what the cause is. Tried full screen vs windows maximized and tweaking some settings to no avail. Here are my specs:

Specs:
-GPU: EVGA RTX 3080
-CPU: Ryzen 5800x
-Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk
-RAM: 32GB (16x2) of G.Skill DDR4
-Storage: 3TB of mixed storage (SSDs, NVMES)
-PSU: Corsair RM850X
-Display: 144hz ROG Swift PG248Q

UserBenchmark:

Any help/insight is appreciated. The games pretty much run flawlessly but every couple of minutes will freeze (stutter) for 1-2 seconds before resuming gameplay.

Thanks for your time :)

Can you upload the HWiNFO64 log file somewhere? CPU voltage peaking at 1.5v is high but not unknown.
See here for some good insight -

When your CPU hits 95ºC it throttles. We need to get it to NOT get that hot. I still can't believe that cooler isn't doing a better job.

So I played a short game while running HWInfo to see if I could replicate the overheating. I noticed the temps stayed low but thermal throttling kicked in anyways. Apparently this happens with some MSI motherboards? I wanted to try Throttlestop to test the theory but it looks like it's not supported.. usually the computer doesn't run that hot on these less demanding games like League of Legends (but the stutter still occurs).

Do you get the same random stutters in Unigine Valley (just let the demo loop at max settings for your resolution)?
https://benchmark.unigine.com/valley

Yeah, I did get the stutter there as well. Here's the log:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/m7wkf3960u1cdin/ValleyTest.CSV?dl=0

Some timestamps I took down while running it:

Log start
1:00 - run program
2:43 - stutter
3:16 - stutter
3:46 - stutter
7:01 - stop program
8:00 - stop log

I didn't see the CPU get to extreme temps, but throttling kicked in anyways. Is there something else that could be causing it?

Update - this PROCHOT throttling seems to be a thing with MSI motherboards (View: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/ps53dg/cpu_throttling_at_weirdly_low_temps_unless_i/
). So far I've tried a couple of games with it disabled via Ryzen Master and no issues, will keep testing today/tomorrow and report back with results.

@Mondeezy did you end up finding a solution to this?

Also wondering the same thing, every so often I get a stutter where audio and video both stutter for up to a second and then everything goes back to normal. I upgraded my motherboard which reduced the amount of time it stutters for but still no complete fix.

This also happens when I'm idle or just running something like chrome or spotify.
