Random WHEA uncorrectable error BSOD

Is there a way to determine which hardware element is failing? Ive been looking it over for over a month now and I cannot seem to figure out what the problem is. I have put in a different RAM and check my hard drive so it cant be those. Otherwise I`m stumped. Any ideas on what to check?

bugcheck 0x124 WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
with parameter 1= 0 will come from the CPU
most often it will be a error called directly from the CPU to shut down the system because the CPU detected a internal error. Most often caused by power fluctuations to the CPU voltage or overheating.

Things to check:
-if you have new low power CPU( released june 2014), Make sure your BIOS is updated to a date after the CPU was released. The BIOS sets the CPU voltage at various clock frequencies. Old BIOS versions set the voltage too high for the newer processors.

- remove any overclocking in BIOS, and any software overclocking for the CPU and GPU
- check the fans in and make sure they are working (not clogged with dust) for the CPU, GPU, and PSU.
- if you have a high power graphics card, check the power cables to it and make sure the power supply is correctly rated.

You should never get a bugcheck 0x124 because of a hard drive, or RAM.

Yeah its a i7 4790k updating the BIOS would probably help then. The motherboard is older than the processor for sure and I did think some voltages looked a little funny. Could the power supply be an issue? Its a 600W Corsair CX.

So go to the even log to see the error message, and check the section " WHEA Error-Specific Hardware Error Identifiers" to find out what hardware has problem.
Because you said you just install the RAM, I think the problem maybe from it, but you have to check the event log first.

Most likely just need a BIOS update, the old cpu voltages and frequency list is wrong. Some times you can get away with it if you install the latest intel CPU chipset drivers. It will update a file that windows loads to override the CPU microcode.

I would not expect it to be your power supply.

I checked the Event Log and the WHEA-Logger ID the error as 19 and also it was reported by a processor core. Does not seem to be the RAM which is good I guess.

Yes, RAM is good, like johnbl said update the BIOS, and the intel chipset from intel website too. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20775

I installed the intel chipset will update the BIOS within the next few days. Thanks for the help ill report back to see if it works.

I don't think the chipset update wil actually over ride the voltage settings in the BIOS, just fixes various bugs in the CPU electronics.

Well I have been running since then with no issues so far. Which is good so I will probably update the BIOS soon. Thanks for the help, i appreciate it!
