Randomly losing game data

Hello everybody, over the past week or two I have noticed that my secondary harddrive is randomly deleting content. It's mostly game files that are disappearing. I booted up my computer today and noticed that I lost about 40gb worth of stuff. Is it safe to say the harddrive kicking the bucket or could there possibly something else causing this? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Could be a HDD problem, but also something else (viruses etc.). To help diagnose the HDD, you could download HDTune and post a screenshot of the 'Health' tab. It can be downloaded from here:

http://www.hdtune.com

You can also use the hard drive manufacturer's own diagnostic tool to scan for errors. But make sure you backup first if you have any important files on the disk.
