I am using Ras to connect computers to a network

Setup:

Network_1A ------ Computer_A ===========Computer_B -------Network_1B

Computer_A is able to connect to Computer_B via RAS. Users on computer_A are able to authenticate on Network_1B. computer_A is able to connect to resources, and ping Network_1B.

I am unable to get users of Network_1A (using computers other than Computer_A) to connect or ping Network_1B.

Computer_A and Computer_B are Winnt Workstation machines, using 56k modems to connect. PDC is on Network_1B and clients will be a mixture of WIN 9x and NT Workstatios.

All HELP WELCOMED.......

Don't know if you have checked it or not but in the TCP/IP properties of the computer, you need to have IP forwarding enabled otherwise nothing from beyond the computer A will be able to use any resources on network 1B.

I have seen this successfuly done with WinNT Server 4.0 but not with workstation.

Good luck.

I'm not in front of the computers right now, but I'm 99% sure that I have IP Forwarding enabled. I heard something about needing a proxy if you want to share a RAS connection. I know this is true for internet connections but would it apply to a RAS connection. Personally I don't think that a proxy would be needed, but then again what do I know?

Again, thanks for any help I get,

Ron.

What you want computer 'A' to do is 'route' traffic through it to the other network. You'll need to either set up a proxy or either a software or hardware based router.
It's similar to connection sharing on a windows 98 machine. Pretend what computer 'a' is doing is dialing into your ISP. Without routing capabilities, none of the computers behind it will be able to access the 'internet'

In addition to the other replies, if the second network is on a different subnet (IP Address scheme) than the first, you will need to set computer A as the default gateway.

I've been doing some research at Technet. None of my readings mentioned a proxy. I think that you can get WAN connectivity in the following manner:

Network_A ---- Router_A ========= Router_B ------ Network_B

My routers will communicate via the internet using VPN. The only thing to know now is how do I assign IP addresses? I think that Network_A and Network_B need to use different Network IPs, but how do I config. my Routers. I am planning to use 2 NT server 4 machines a routers.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Ron
