What impresses me the most is the software. A MC680000, a ZX80, VPU with DMA etc. And machines of this era require practically cycle-accurate timing between them.

I've used that type of joystick: It is not nice. What I think would be nice would be if you could reuse the D-pad from a MegaDrive controller: new knock-offs are readily available and affordable.
