News Raspberry Pi Shoos Away Birds Without Hurting Them

I have an even cheaper/simpler solution. I had the same issue with birds landing on the solar cover and taking a quick dip on the water resting on the surface. I bought a bird bath for $70 and I spend 2 minutes every day emptying, cleaning and filling it. No more birds go near the pool.

Less battery power and cheaper if you use a Pi Zero, which is totally adequate for this project. And since this is a dedicated device, an ESP32 with microPython could easily handle the task, although getting a driver for the motion detector might be an issue.
In my home projects I often use a Pi Zero instead of ESP32, because running Linux OS makes the dev process so much easier.
