Ive recently completed the custom built pc I always promised my little bro I would always build him. It cost me <£1000 in total, and Im pleased with it. I was aiming for a modestly powerful build that can do 1080p 60fps High-Max settings in most titles and future gamez for him for years to come.

Here are the specs:

.intel i7 5930k clocked to 4.4ghz, .Asrockmotherboard X99M Extreme 4 .16gb of corsair dominator platinum DDR4 3000Mhz RAM running at 2666mhz atm

.Geforce gtx980ti with EKWB fitted

.Samsung 950 Pro 512gb and 256gb M.2 ssd's

.Seagate Firecuda 2TB SSHD

.kingston HyperX 120gb SSD

.Corsair ax760i

.EK Revo D5 Vario Pump and Reservoir, .Alphacool 120mm 30mm thick Rad and nexxxosmonsta 120mm 80mm thick rad, .Fully custom watercooled hardtube Loop

.Silverstone ft03 PC chasis

Mix of slim 15mm 120mm fans and 2x Corsair SP120L's on the Monsta 80mm thick rad

From a performance standpoint, it's a solid system - definitely capable for max/high 1080p gaming.
From an aesthetic standpoint, it looks good (although a subjective aspect).

Value-wise is where it get's a bit iffy.
Very similar performance would be available, new, with modern components (say R5 2600 + 1070), but you'd likely have to cut back on the storage if buying new - and the water cooling equipment wouldn't be within the budget.

If you were just looking for the performance of this rig, I, personally, would've gone new.
But, if you (or your bro) wanted a full custom loop for <£1000, then this is about as good as you could hope for really.

Everything was bought used off eBay and cost less than they did new, the cpu was about £220, mobo £115, RAM £150, GPU £200 950 512gb and 256gb were about £300 total, SSHD and SSD £100, Case was £45, Pump and Res were £90, Tubing £25, Fittings £35, rads were about £80 total. PSU ive owned about 2 years and paid £120. Now that I think about it, I probably spent more than £1000. But many parts I already owned and have reused from other builds so nothing wasted. I already sold about £200 from parts i owned and have about £300 worth of parts from the last non watercooled build i did for him to sell, X99 Motherboard, Corsair H115i, Coolermaster HAF XB case, etc so there is money yet for me to recoup off the total cost. All in all im happy with the performance though and what I spent, and oncw Ive sold the spare parts, this builds cost should come down to about £600-£700
