Dear Experts,

I recently bought a Razer blackwidow chroma keyboard.

The keyboard was working fine for a couple of days.

After updating my Asmedia XHCI Controller drivers, my keyboard's LEDs stopped working completely, meaning I was not able to change the pattern from synapse, or do anything related to the lights what so ever, the lights were completely "dead".

The driver update seemed to have also caused random blue screens to pop up so I proceeded with a complete system format, and reinstalled windows all together.

The keyboard's lights still don't work after the re-installation.

The lights don't work on other PCs or Macs.

The lights don't work with or without synapse installed.

The lights don't work after creating a new profile on synapse.

Here are my system specs:

Could it be possible that the update in USB drivers caused a power surge that fried the LEDs on the keyboard?

Looking forward to your replies and thoughts.

Solution
Rolling back to Windows drivers (which were the previous ones) did not bring the lights back unfortunately, hence why I reinstalled Windows all together as an ultimate solution and to my surprise it didn't bring the lights back which led me to think they got fried at some point in the process. The Razer forums were littered with issues related to an occasional singular LED not working but nothing similar to the whole keyboard light circuit turning off...

Right now my driver update software is telling me that the XHCI drivers are out of date (windows drivers) but under no condition am I going to update them as the update causes random BSODs and general system stability issues.

My motherboard is ASUS m5a99x EVO
Doubt it was a power surge.

Were you able to roll back to the older XHCI driver to see if that brings back the lights?

Did not read or otherwise read-in that you specifically tried the older driver again.

Check vendor keyboard forums to see if there are any similar problems with respect to the newer driver.

If the older driver does not restore things and there are no reported issues regarding the new driver then I would consider the keyboard to be defective. Especially so because the keyboard does not work on other PCs or Macs.

Unfortunately not, it was established in the end to be a manufacturing error and I got a new keyboard from Razer.

I suggest you contact Razer customer support, and start an RMA request, they might ask for the receipt for the keyboard, if you don't have it, say it was a gift and it will work just fine.
