Hello, im having problems with my Blackwidow Ultimate Battlefield 3 edition.
I bought this keyboard 1 year ago and worked perfect. Last month i had problems with backlight, Suddenly light intesity goes down.

Normally lights looks like this: Bright intesity is too low, if room lights are on i cant see if keyboard lights are on. Took picture with room light and monitor off.

Sometimes lights comes normally and looks like this picture took with monitor and room lights on.

I tried installing keyboard in another computer and backlight looks too low.
also unistalling software (synapse) and reinstalling firmware (unplug keyboard and plug pressing down and holding the FN key)

Anyone know this issue?

Thank you.

Hello.

I have the exact same problem. If anyone knows a workout for this, I'd be really pleased :).

Because currently it's pretty much useless. The max light level is under the "normal" low level... Even in the dark you cannot distinguish keys...

Well I'm not authorized to edit my post so sorry for double...

edit : I have had this problem for some months now, but to this day been unable to find any other person who had it on the internet. Since I have a BF3 Ed. too, I think it's pretty much a BF3 Ed. related problem.

Hello, thanks for sharing.
About this problem, yes, i didn't find another person with this.
Im thinking on dissasemble it and try to find something like a "digital dimmer switch" and try to make a bridge.

Edit: i have a question for you Flow789, did you try reinstalling windows?

Thank you.

Yeah, I reinstall my computer often, and since I have this issue, I've reinstalled W7 (x64) 2 times, and I'm currently running W8. Still have the same issue. And I had it too on a Ubuntu machine (Linux). So I don't think that it's software related. It's more on the hardware side.
I must add that the lights flickers when they go dimmer. So I think it's a power problem of some kind. But I'm no expert in electricity, so I cannot be more precise 🙁

I'm also having the same issues as you to peoples, the back lights are not glowing or very very dim. I've noticed the the numbers light is very bright so not sure about the power issue. I have a 750W unit so plenty of power its just not getting to lights. I think it might be a software problem.

This is my config:

Intel I7 920D0 stock with ZALMAN CNPS9900DF
Asus Rampage GENE II
Scythe 850w
G.Skill Trident 3*2GB
SuperTalent SSD 64GB
WD 1TB
Saphire 7970 3GB

Don't know why light are working normal for 2 days and counting.

Didn't change software or config. Lights just get normal intensity.

Razer....................

I'll drop mine too but I really think that it's a keyboard malfunction, not a software thing.
Intel I5 3570k @ stock / Noctua NH-U12P SE2
MSI Z77-G45
Corsair 650W 80+ Bronze
Corsair Vengeance 1600 2*4GB
PNY Pro SSD 120GB
2* Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB
VTX3D 7970 @ 1050/1500

Sometimes, it'll work better for sometime, between 10mn and 3 or 4 days, but then again it'll go dark. At that time, it's been completely dim (meaning I can barely see the light maxed out in total darkness) for 5 days.

I've contacted them (Razer), with a link to this thread for your pics francoyasuda, I'm waiting for their answer atm. I'll be sure to drop it here once I've got it.

Well so I've got an answer from Razer, unfortunately it's not a good news :/

They basically said that my kb was probably in need of an exchange. After that was a small guide to send back my kb to get a new one...

Unfortunately for me, I don't have any proof of purchase since the kb is second hand. Hope you'll have a better luck :/.

tl;dr : The keyboard is broken, you need to send it back. You cannot get it to work by yourself.

Flow789:
They said the same to me, but if i send keyboard to razer will be more expensive than buying a new one because im from argentina and i have to pay shipping to razer.
My keyboard still working properly this is day 5.
Didn't change anything....

Hope it'll stay this way for you then. Mine had a brief "light-up", for like 2mn xD. Seems I'll just have to buy another one then (not Razer and not second-hand this time !).

Oh, btw, I had a question. If you are sure that you're not going to send your kb back, you wont need your proof of purchase right ? Would it bother you to give it to me ? I know it's asking for a lot tho, but it's free to ask right ? ^^

This may not be the same problem you were having, but I was having issues with my backlight not working. Turned out it's a glitch in Synapse 2.0 with the "Turn off backlight when display is turned off" option. If you turn that off the light may come back on, worked for me. If you can't turn it off by clicking on it like me (because Synapse is buggy) you can simply create a new profile since the option is unchecked by default.

Well I also had this issue a while ago, but I went round it by uninstalling then reinstalling synapse (but thanks for the profile tip, it could help me if I run into this issue again 😉). But this is different. In fact, the backlighting flickers, then goes dimmer and dimmer until finally it wears off completely. Mine have been working for 1 hour total the last 2 months. Even with new synapse, with switching between lights mode etc. Sometimes it just appears again, for 1 hour, 5mn, sometimes even 2s. I dont know why.

I have the exact same issue.. Got nothing to do with Window OS.. I use my keyboard at office. It EXACTLY like your problem. The light sometime light up and sometime it's dim.. i can use good for a day or hours then become dim.
Still no answer

same problem, I just turned it off and I'll never buy anything from them...

//edit: here is the answer from Razer staff:

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting Razer support. My name is Jack and i will be assisting you today. Kindly please be advised to try creating a new profile and delete the old profile on synapse and the issue that you are facing should be resolved. Hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Best Regards,
Razer Support Team

Bought my 14'' Razer Blade last week and the lights just shutoff on their own for no reason! Ridiculous! First time I shut it down and waited a few minutes and when i booted the device, the lights came back up but then it happened again and I had to reset windows and then it started working again, just now it shut off again! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

I think it's because of synapse. If you exit the software the lights will come back on...at least thats what happens with me

Just fixed it i think. I made a new keyboard profile and it all started working eventhough my old profile had the lights enabled. Maybe it was something to do with an update.

hi guys im from argentina too, and i have the same exact problem, the lights sometimes bright up , my record was for like 2 hours, but then it just almost turned off. Razer also told me to exchange the product but its impossible to me to achieve that. I have installed old drivers and its the same, now i installed synapse 2.0 but i cannot uninstall the old drivers, and neither of the programs recognizes my kb, anyone help?

Thank you, this actually worked for me also as i was having the problem with it not lighting up at all, but this did the trick thank you

This seems to be a more common problem than Razer is admitting to. I have the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Battlefield 3 keyboard. I bought it as a bundle with the Razer Spectre Starcraft II gaming mouse.

I also have the same back light problem. Sadly, my keyboard is just out of warranty. It started a few months ago and got worse as time went on. Now my lights are off except for the odd 5-10 second flash of brightness and then back to days of darkness. It does this regardless of which computer I have it plugged into so it is not a software issue. I have plugged it into other computers that are not running the synapse software. The Caps Lock, Scroll Lock and Num Lock lights all work fine.

I would like to have Razer actually state clearly what the problem is so that we can go ahead and repair it ourselves if the keyboard is out of warranty. Obviously, I am not going to send it back when shipping is more than the cost of a new keyboard.

I have contacted Razer and I have asked them for the schematic so I can troubleshoot and repair. Once I have diagnosed the problem, I shall post the solution here for the rest of you to implement. It is a widely known problem so they should just post the solution and take care of their customers. Honestly, I expect Razer to refuse to disclose the schematic. If they do that, I shall let you know so that you can further decide if you want to purchase other items they sell or seek other vendors.
